Maichew Technical College

There has been a Technical School at Maichew for several years, working to train skilled artisans for the local job market. The Ethiopian Ministry of Education is now trying to improve technical training throughout the country and is starting by building a number of new Technical Colleges and also upgrading Technical Schools. Maichew is one of the latter, and the new College opened in September 1997. One aim is to produce better technical trainers, who will themselves then help to train skilled artisans in the lower level institutions or in other programmes such as income generation projects run by some NGO’s. The other aim is to produce qualified technical personnel for middle level jobs in Ethiopia. There is a desperate shortage of such people to work in government, business and industry, all of which sectors need to develop in order to provide urgently needed improvements to the economy and social service of Ethiopia.

26 January 2003 saw the final of the interdepartmental football competition. Auto V Cot. COT won 6-4 after a very good match and extra time.

The new Computer Centre:

The new computer center has been setup with computers from the Department of Education to teach the new 10+2 Computer courses for the local High School. It will eventually be networked to allow control of the computers.
